Throughout the game it is clear the templars are brutally oppressive, and by the third act rather horrifyingly so (making people tranquil for the slightest slip up). Unless you are roleplaying as an ‘evil’ character, or a diehard andrastian, there is no reason for hawke to side with templars, and every reason to oppose. I have played da2 many many times, and yet I have never thought of any compelling reason for why I would side with the templars in the end.
